A handful of information: DU8090Z and UST lens
We are back from the Roadshow and have almost answered all pending messages. It’s time to provide you with a bit more information about two of our new products – the Vivitek DU8090Z laser projector and the D88-UST01 ultra-short-throw lens.

What to pay attention to? Here are two key features in brief:
It is definitely worth highlighting the laser light source, which guarantees 20,000 hours of lifespan. This is an extremely important feature for installations in hard-to-reach places, where replacing a lamp requires, for example, setting up scaffolding and taking the projector out of service.
Another feature is the 360-degree installation capability (Freetilt installation). Thanks to this function, we can easily project an image onto the ceiling, floor, or in portrait mode, for example.
In the case of projectors with a traditional mercury lamp, almost any non-standard installation (i.e., anything other than tabletop or ceiling projection) can shorten the lamp’s lifespan by up to half of its nominal value. This is caused by gravity-sensitive cooling systems that have to cope with heavily heating mercury lamps.
In the case of the “laser”, an advanced cooling system is not required, meaning the projector is not as noisy and can be installed in any position without shortening the lifespan of the light source.

Also noteworthy are the 8 available lenses. Ranging from the UST lens, which has a throw ratio of 0.38:1, through the Standard lens, all the way to the Long Zoom, which allows for projecting a 1-meter base from a distance of over 8 meters. Below is a chart illustrating the coverage of distance ranges.

Ultra-short-throw lens
Projector-based visual installations can be increasingly found in places such as museums, galleries, or shop windows. In some situations, it is impossible to use standard-throw projectors, which is why there is a high demand for short-throw and even ultra-short-throw solutions. But what if the installation requires high brightness? A classic UST projector with a brightness of up to 4000 ANSI lm will not cope in brightly lit places. The solution then is a high-brightness projector with a UST lens. Until recently, the offer of such solutions was narrow and essentially limited to very expensive and ultra-professional designs. The situation changed with the premiere of Vivitek’s new solution.
The UST lens from Vivitek has a throw ratio of 0.38:1 for WUXGA resolution (XGA: 0.39:1, WXGA: 0.40:1) and, like many solutions of this type, does not project “straight ahead”, but “behind” the projector, as you can see in the photo below.

What about installation? Well, it’s worth noting that due to its design, a lens of this type is not the lightest. To prevent the entire weight of the glass from resting on the standard mechanism inside the projector chassis, a special support bracket is provided. It will prove very useful for all types of projection – ceiling, tabletop, or using Freetilt installation technology.
It is worth noting that the bracket is flexible, meaning we can, for example, adjust the lens position using lens shift, and then adjust the bracket and tighten it to rigidify the structure. Warning – manipulating the lens position using lens shift after mounting and rigidifying the support bracket may damage the electric mechanism! There is an option to lock the use of lens shift available from the OSD menu.
